The Beginning of the 123 Exteriors Free Roof Giveaway
It all started when…
The free roof giveaway originated in 123 Exteriors’ Waukesha, WI office when General Manager Joe Koch was working with a homeowner to restore her home’s siding, and unfortunately, insurance replacement of their aged roof was not approved. The homeowner had been battling cancer and the cost of treatments and hospital bills made her put the improvements to her home on hold. But she soon learned that due to the age and deterioration of her roof, if she did not get it replaced, her homeowner’s insurance coverage would be dropped.
Upon learning of her situation, Joe gathered local suppliers and vendors for a roof giveaway. Thanks to Joe’s compassion and material donations from IKO and Richards Building Supply of Milwaukee, the homeowner received a new roof in October 2015.
Chicago, IL: On November 10th, 2021, 123 Exteriors began installing a new roof for our free roof giveaway winners Patrick and Mike Peluso in Hoffman Estates, IL.
123’s crews and Illinois team, IKO Roofing, neighbors, friends and family invaded the neighborhood in celebration of this new roof installation, as well as, enjoy lunch courtesy of the Smokin' BBQ Kitchen food truck.
Mike moved home to assist his parent’s when his father became ill. After his father passed, Mike continued to take care of his mother who also fell ill and passed last year. Patrick also fell on hard times with some physical disabilities and lives with Mike who assists where he can. Both brothers have been left to care for their family home.
Living with a tarp over a hole in the roof, Mike and Patrick have not been able to get approved by their insurance company or able to afford for work to be done. Their surrounding neighbors have watched the struggles of the family, and it was a clear choice who they wanted to nominate for a new, free roof in their neighborhood.
We are truly thankful to be a part of this roof transformation for Patrick and Mike, and their dog, Kara.
Milwaukee, WI: 123 Exteriors began installing a new roof for our free roof giveaway winner, Linda Bugajski in Waukesha, WI on September 29th, 2021.
The Denson's Catering & Event Planning food truck served afternoon lunch where neighbors in the community stopped by to see the progress of this new roof and enjoy a bite to eat.
This past summer, homeowners across the greater Milwaukee and Waukesha areas nominated their neighbors along with heartfelt stories for our annual free roof giveaway. After learning of Linda’s husband’s diagnoses with stage 4 lung cancer, her own scare with cancer and lyme disease, and the loss of her mother this past summer, we at 123 stepped in to bring a ray of happiness into Linda’s life and take away some of the stresses of home repair.
Linda's story touched our hearts, and we at 123 Exteriors feel blessed and thankful to have installed this new roof and give back to this family.
Columbus, OH: On August 19th, 2021, 123 Exteriors began repairing Columbus, OH resident’s Robin and Kevin Updegrove’s roof, among some of their other exterior issues. The Worldwide Catering food truck served afternoon lunch where church members, neighbors and suppliers all stopped by to see the progress of this new roof and enjoy lunch in the community.
Why was everyone so interested in this roof?
In the summer of 2021, William McCubbin, Associate Pastor of Eastland Christian Church, reached out to his congregation to help a family in their community. Robin and Kevin were in need of some serious home repairs, especially to their roof. Both are veterans, have been through some medical ups and downs, and greatly involved in their church and community.
Members of the church began to raise funds in secret to help out Robin and Kevin. The goal was set at $10,000 dollars and money raised in less than two weeks. Altogether, over $13,000 was raised!
On Sunday July 11th, the “secret” was out. McCubbin made the announcement to Robin and Kevin that funds were raised, the church had partnered with 123 Exteriors for their roof repair, and Robin and Kevin would soon be at ease with their much-needed home repairs.
Over the years, Robin and Kevin’s service to the church and community has been appreciated by many, and we at 123 Exteriors are grateful that we were able to partner with Eastland Christian Church to give back to this family.
